Explore the islands of Iona and Staffa, following the history and the life
of the people from earliest times to the present day. Iona’s stunning natural
beauty is enchanting, from the ancient grey rocks of Dun I, the fertile green
fields edged with dazzling white sand and the vivid blues of the Hebridean
Sea.
Capture the peace and tranquillity of the island and experience places few
have the opportunity to visit…the marble quarry, Columba’s Bay and the
Hermit’s Cell. Take time to appreciate the Abbey’s architecture, history and
spiritual significance. Everywhere, the different strands of Iona’s story
weave together.
Staffa’s magnificent Fingal’s Cave is just one of several unique features
on an island formed by immense volcanic rock pillars. See the outstanding
wildlife of the islands – dolphins and porpoises playing in the shallow
waters, seals, and many kinds of birds including guillemot, razor bill,
cormorant and puffin to name just a few.
Look out for a few surprises… a glimpse of the shy and secretive corncrake,
the plume from spouting cave, the story of Columba’s tears - pebbles flecked
with serpentine and rounded by the Atlantic ocean - and pictures from the
historic visit by the President of the Irish Republic in 1997.
Filmed by Kenny McLeod, script by E Mairi MacArthur, narrated by Alex
O’Henley, with music inspired by these islands written and arranged by Finlay
Wells and Chas Mackenzie.
